چکیده

A FOLKLORE OF INFORMATION WORK ENVIRONMENTS adopts the holistic indepth methods from the folklore of work and applies them to modern information workplaces. Like some other fields, folklore of spaces and artifacts takes the perspective that people’s folk practices are a part of the things they interact with, that environment impacts people, and people impact their environment. Thus a folklore of space enfolds many of the research interests of diverse fields that deal with the modern work setting and the elements within that setting, from cubicle design to information systems. This article reviews literature from several bodies of research and attempts to bring them together in a projected folklore of information work space. It emphasizes the importance of studying folklore of information work environments in the context of the current shift toward removing work from any particular place via information systems, e-mail, and the Web. A deep understanding of the folklore of work space can give clues to the impact of this trend and can inform design of information systems and modern work environments.

Piles Across Space Breaking the Real-Estate Barrier on PDAs

We describe an implementation that has users ‘flick’ notes, images, audio, and video files into piles beyond the screen of the PDA. This scheme allows the PDA user to keep information close at hand without sacrificing valuable screen real estate. It also obviates the need to browse complex file trees during a working session. Multiple workspaces can be maintained in persistent store. Each works...

Observing Cognitive Work in Offices

The information revolution has a deep impact on office work. To create better environments for cognitive workers, we designed two observation tools recording office activity. The Subcam (subjective camera) is a miniature, wearable, wide angle video camera, clipped on a pair of glasses ; it records individual activity from a subjective point of view, wherever the user goes. The Offsat (office sa...

Reliability and Availability Improvement in Economic Data Grid Environment Based On Clustering Approach

Abstract - One of the important problems in grid environments is data replication in grid sites. Reliability and availability of data replication in some cases is considered low. To separate sites with high reliability and high availability of sites with low availability and low reliability, clustering can be used. In this study, the data grid dynamically evaluate and predict the condition of t...

Empirical Study of Nova Scotia Nurses’ Adoption of Healthcare Information Systems: Implications for Management and Policy-Making

Background This paper used the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), which was extended, to investigate nurses’ adoption of healthcare information systems (HIS) in Nova Scotia, Canada.   Methods Data was collected from 197 nurses in a survey and data analysis was carried out using the partial least squares (PLS) technique.   Results In contrast to findings in prior studies that used TPB to investig...

Evaluation of Static and Dynamic Methods for Determining the Bearing Capacity of the Driven Pipe Piles (TECHNICAL NOTE)

Determination of the pile capacity is always a major concern for the safe geotechnical engineering design. Different direct and indirect methods have been proposed for determining pile bearing capacity such as static and dynamic approaches. Each method depends on the condition of the soil and type of pile as well as accessibility to necessary information. In this study bearing capacity of drive...
